Incidents and Injuries
Incidents and Injuries
Safety first
Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Auckland Dragon Boat Association is committed to supporting safe dragon boating for paddlers, crews, sweeps, coaches, officials and volunteers. Reporting injuries, incidents and near misses helps us understand what has happened, respond appropriately and reduce risk across the sport.
Please report any injury, incident or near miss as soon as possible.
Injuries
If someone in your crew is injured, let your coach or sweep know immediately.
This applies to injuries that happen during dragon boating and injuries from outside the sport that may affect a paddler’s ability to train or race safely.
Even minor injuries should be raised, so the right support or adjustments can be made. Coaches and sweeps need to understand anything that may affect crew safety, paddler wellbeing or on-water activity.
If an injury happens during dragon boating, please report it using the ADBA injury form www.adba.co.nz/injury
Incidents and Near Misses
All incidents and near misses must be reported, even if they seem minor.
A near miss is something that could have caused harm, damage or a safety issue, even if no one was injured. Reporting near misses is important because it helps ADBA identify hazards early and take action before something more serious happens.
Incident and near miss reports go to the ADBA Safety Officer for review.
The purpose of reporting is not to get anyone into trouble. It helps us collect the right information, understand risks and keep dragon boating safer for everyone.
If an incident or near miss happens during dragon boating, please report it using the ADBA incident form: www.adba.co.nz/incident/
Emergencies
In an emergency, call 111 immediately.
After emergency support has been arranged and everyone is safe, please make sure the incident is reported to ADBA.
Help keep everyone safe
By reporting injuries, incidents and near misses, you help protect the wider paddling community.
A quick report can help ADBA identify patterns, fix hazards, improve processes and support safer training and racing across Auckland.
