Auckland’s biggest day of city-centre dragon boat racing is back!
Get ready for a full day of fast, fierce and seriously fun 200m racing on the Waitematā, with crews battling it out right in the heart of the Auckland Viaduct.
The Auckland Dragon Boat Festival (previously known as the Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta) continues to grow, and demand for racing has never been higher. To fit more crews onto the water and give more teams the chance to race, the 2027 event will feature small boat racing only.
That means there will be no standard boat racing in 2027, allowing us to schedule more small boat races and welcome more teams into the action.
The festival is always a highlight of the dragon boat calendar, packed with close finishes, big team energy and plenty happening on and off the water.
Rally your paddlers, secure your sweep and get ready to bring the noise to the Viaduct!
Registrations open: Sunday 1 November 2026
Registrations close: Sunday 9 January 2027, or earlier if fully booked

A minimum of three entries is required for each division to race
Two heats and one final
Crew size: 8–10 paddlers
Mixed crews must have at least four female paddlers
Women’s and Breast Cancer Survivor crews may have a male or non-BCS sweep
No double rostering is permitted across small boat races
Teams must secure their sweeps in advance
