Current Opportunities

Paid roles

ADBA Sports Coordinator

Time commitment: Up to 20 hours per week (paid role, fixed term – 6 months)
Rate: $25/hour

This part-time role supports the ADBA committee with events, marketing, funding, and admin. You’ll help coordinate our Corporate Splash events, support marketing and sponsorship activity, and pitch in across the season with communications and logistics. You don’t need to be a dragon boating expert, just someone who’s organised, proactive, and happy to work across a range of tasks. You’ll be working alongside committee members who will guide and support you.

This is a fixed-term, paid contract role designed to help grow the sport and strengthen our operations behind the scenes. You’ll be expected to provide short updates at monthly ADBA committee meetings.

Volunteer Committee roles

ADBA Secretary

Time committment: 4-5 hour/month, plus monthly committee meetings

You’ll help keep things ticking over smoothly behind the scenes. That includes organising monthly committee meetings (sending agendas, taking minutes), handling ADBA email enquiries, and filing key documents in MSTeams so we all know where to find things. You’ll also help coordinate key dates and documents around the AGM. Handy for someone who’s organised and reliable. 

The current secretary will provide full handover and support.

ADBA Safety Officer (aka our Safety Dragon)

Time commitment: ~4-5 hour/month, plus event days
We’ve got solid safety plans in place, so you won’t be starting from scratch. Your job is to review and implement these plans, improve them where needed, and own it and help us keep things running safely and smoothly. You’ll coordinate first aiders and kits, support emergency response, and be the main point of contact for safety issues. You’ll also receive and manage all incident and accident reports submitted through the website. H&S experience is a bonus, but not essential. Safety is everyone's responsibility - especially on the committee, but we need someone to own it. You’ll be expected to attend monthly committee meetings and give a short update on your progress or ideas.

ADBA Strategic projects coordinator

Time commitment: 4-5 hours/month - project dependent. 
If you’re a big-picture thinker, this one’s for you. The strategy is already written - your role is to help bring it to life and think longer term. That might include building relationships with council, community groups; helping grow the sport across Auckland; or supporting the setup of new training locations. Flexible time commitment depending on projects – great for someone proactive and passionate about the future of dragon boating. You will have the support of the all committee members to bounce ideas off. You’ll be expected to attend monthly committee meetings and give a short update on your progress or ideas.

ADBA Equipment Co-Manager

Time committment: 4 hours/month, increases around events

You’ll help keep track of all things boats, trailers and gear. That means maintaining our equipment inventory, helping organise transport and storage, and coordinating any repairs or inspections. If you can be hands-on, great! But arranging help is fine too – you won’t be expected to do it all yourself - you’ll work with the current Equipment Manager and Events Manager to make sure everything’s ready when needed. You’ll be expected to attend monthly committee meetings and give a short update on your progress or ideas.

ADBA Sponsorship Coordinator

Time committment: ~4 hours/month

Help us grow our sport by building sponsor support! You'll create sponsorship packages (with help from the committee), connect with potential sponsors, and handle admin to bring it all to life. This role works alongside our Funding team and reports to the committee at monthly meetings. No experience needed - just a proactive mindset, great communication, and a bit of creativity. You’ll be expected to attend monthly committee meetings and give a short update on your progress or ideas.

Sub committee roles

ADBA Volunteer & Officials Coordinator

Time commitment: Busy around event days. 

You’ll help recruit and coordinate race officials for our events and volunteers for working bees. You'll work closely with, and have support from the Events Manager and Volunteer Coordinator. The Events Manager will handle training and briefings until you’re confident to take over. We’ve already created job descriptions for all key event volunteer roles, so you’ll have a solid starting point. Ideal for someone who enjoys connecting with people, keeping things organised, and rallying the troops. You will report to the Events Manager for events and Equipment Manager for any working bees. You are not required to attend committee meetings.

Equipment sub-committee (multiple people needed)

Time commitment: Varies – a job you can step in and out of if we have the people to make things happen
We’re looking for few dedicated people to support the Equipment managers and with equipment for event logitstics like trailer towing, and managing the packing in/out of trailers, making sure everything is ready for the next event. You can choose which events to support and can swap around (if we have enough equipment volunteers to cover the events). Driving licence and ability to tow trailers is handy, but can do attitute is a must. You are not required to attend committee meetings.

Sweep administration

Time commitment: ~2 hours/month
You’ll work with the Sweep Coordinator to maintain a clear record of sweep accreditations and help update regional materials as NZDBA refreshes the national framework. You will support in the creation of training material for our sweeps to enhance their confidence and abilities. Admin support will be key in this role. You will be making sure our sweep crew are backed up and well looked after. You are not required to attend committee meetings.

Schools Administrator

Time commitment: Variable, mostly November–March

Help keep our schools programme running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll support the Schools Liaison by following up with schools during the day, answering questions, and helping coordinate any changes to training times or team plans. Great for someone organised, responsive, and happy to chat and follow up with school staff. This role is seasonal (November to March) and doesn’t require you to attend committee meetings.
