Help keep the spirit of Dragon Boating alive!
The Auckland Dragon Boat Association (ADBA) is at the heart of Auckland’s vibrant dragon boating community. We’re a passionate, fun-loving group committed to facilitating teamwork, inclusivity, and the thrill of competition on the water. To keep our events running smoothly and safely, we rely on the dedication of volunteers and staff who share our enthusiasm for the sport.
If you’re looking for an opportunity to contribute to a dynamic sporting community, learn new skills, and be part of a team that values safety, precision, and camaraderie, we’d love to hear from you!

- Flexible opportunities: We offer both paid and voluntary roles that can fit into your schedule.
- Skill development: Gain valuable experience in event operations, water safety, and leadership.
Current Opportunities
Safety Officer (aka our Safety Dragon)
Time commitment: ~1 hour/week, plus event days
Help keep our paddlers safe! This role is perfect for someone organised and calm under pressure. You'll help review safety procedures, communicate with teams, and work with our event crew to make sure everything’s shipshape. H&S background preferable, but not essential – but a keen eye and a proactive mindset will help.
Volunteer & Officials coordinator
Time commitment: Flexible, but busier around events
Be the go-to person for rallying volunteers! You’ll connect with clubs and community groups to help us find helpers and event officials. If you're a people person and love organising, this one's for you.
Strategic projects coordinator
Time commitment: Flexible
Got big-picture thinking? Help us look ahead. This role supports the ADBA’s future direction – building relationships, aligning with council and community goals, and adding to our long term strategic plan.
Equipment sub-committee (multiple people needed)
Time commitment: Varies – a job you can step in and out of if we have the people to make things happen
Help us keep the fleet in top condition! We’re after a few legends to help move gear, tow trailers, and do basic checks or fixes on our boats and equipment. If you’ve got a licence, a toolbox, or just good organisational skills – we want to hear from you.
Sweep sub-committee
Time commitment: Variable
Sweeps are vital, and we’re building a support system just for them. We're working with the NZDBA to renew the National Sweep Accredition, so we need people to work with our Sweep Cordinator to help us refresh our regional materials, support accreditation, and be there when our sweep crew needs advice or encouragement.
